  • Fatal Truck Crash Closes I-64 in Virginia Beach

    Truck crash lawyers

A fatal tractor-trailer crash closed portions of Interstate 64 in Virginia Beach for hours Monday, impacting both westbound and eastbound traffic near the Indian River Road area.

Virginia State Police said a sedan entering I-64 from Indian River Road lost control and was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer. The crash sent the truck into the jersey wall, where it caught fire. The truck driver died at the scene, and the sedan driver suffered only minor injuries, according to police.

Firefighters and emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear debris from the roadway. The I-64 left, center, and express lanes, entrance ramp, and shoulder were closed for most of the morning, along with the eastbound express lane and left shoulder.

Tractor-trailer collisions are among the most dangerous crashes on Virginia highways. The weight of commercial vehicles and the potential for post-impact fires can turn a single collision into a catastrophic event. When a truck catches fire after a collision, the risk of injury increases dramatically because of the large fuel load and potential for secondary explosions.
