    Car accident lawyers

Three people were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 464 in Chesapeake early Sunday. According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred near Military Highway when a southbound Ford Econoline ambulance, owned by Midwest Medical of North Carolina, was struck head-on by a 2022 Lexus sedan traveling the wrong direction. Both vehicles caught fire due to the impact, police said.

The ambulance driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she later died. A passenger in the ambulance also died at the hospital of severe injuries. The Lexus driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating whether alcohol and speed are contributing factors in the crash.

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous type of accidents on the road. They often occur when drivers mistakenly enter an interstate using the wrong ramp or drive down the wrong exit. Because these situations usually lead to head-on collisions at highway speeds, the results are frequently catastrophic or fatal.

Even a brief moment of confusion or disorientation can put multiple drivers at risk. Clear roadway markings, driver attentiveness, and safe decision-making are critical in preventing these types of tragedies. Motorists should take extra care when navigating on-ramps and exits, especially at night or in unfamiliar areas, to ensure they are traveling in the correct direction.
